Botulinum toxin is a type of neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. It plays a role in suppressing the extracellular release of synaptic vesicles by acting on the nerve endings at the neuron junctions of mammals. It may also modulate pain through peripheral nociceptors by inhibiting the exocytosis of various neurotransmitters, hence the use of botox “Botulinum toxin” in the treatment of craniofacial pain. In this course, we introduce you to the art of using botox in your dental practice. When and how can it be effective, and what complications should you care for.
